How Does Horse Cloning Work at Nexuspetai?

Our horse cloning service is designed to be as efficient and successful as possible, preserving the invaluable genetics of your horse.

1. Genetic Preservation (GP): Securing Your Horse's Future

The first and most critical step is the collection and preservation of your horse's unique genetic material.

• For Living Horses: A Nexuspetai veterinarian, or your own vet, will collect a small tissue sample, typically from the ear or chest of the donor horse, through a simple and minimally invasive biopsy procedure. These cells are then carefully cultured in our state-of-the-art laboratory and cryopreserved using our Genetic Preservation (GP) service. This ensures that your horse's unique genetics are safely stored and available for cloning at any point in the future.
• If Your Horse Has Recently Passed Away: While highly time-sensitive, it may still be possible to collect a viable sample.
• Immediately take a tissue sample (e.g., one ear or a piece of chest tissue), wrap it in a sterilized cloth, and refrigerate it.
• If refrigeration isn't possible, place ice cubes on your horse's body, replacing them frequently to keep the tissue cool.
• Contact Nexuspetai as soon as possible. Our team will provide immediate guidance to maximize the chances of successful cell retrieval and preservation.

2. The Cloning Procedure

Once we have a healthy, viable cell line from your horse:

• The nucleus (containing the donor horse's DNA) from one of your preserved cells is carefully transferred into an unfertilized egg cell from a donor mare, after its own DNA has been removed.
• This reconstructed egg is then activated to begin developing into an embryo.
• The resulting embryo is implanted into the uterus of a surrogate mare, who will carry the pregnancy to term. The surrogate will experience a normal gestation period, culminating in the birth of your horse's genetic identical.
